Film Blog

Now we’re going to discuss filming. To be honest I’m not really that excited about the process this time. It’s not that I’m bored with it, it’s just that I’m confused and annoyed. After debating for minutes upon minutes my group and I finally chose a song. In the moment it seemed like a great idea but now that I’m thinking about the outlook of the music video, I don’t like it much. I don’t dislike it but I just feel like our concept is so similar to everyone else’s. Everyone films at the beach, and for the music video I wanted to be different, unique. I wanted to shoot at a restaurant maybe. To turkey bring out the idea that the couple was in love and they were on a date, enjoying each other’s company. I thought it’d be perfect for the music we chose, it would’ve made more sense in my opinion.

Of course majority rules and my group members thought it’d be more convenient for everyone if we did shoot there because it’s close to our school. Which I totally understand because for instance in my case, I have to babysit and I leave far so it’d be best for us to leave right after school is finished. We would head to the beach and shoot from 3-5, then head back to school so me and another member can hop on the school bus. In order to complete the filming we’d have to do this 2 days instead of 1. We plan on filming the Monday and Tuesday after we get back from thanksgiving break. That way we’ll still have enough time to edit the music video. We wanted to film this week but we found out there’s no activity buses. Also me and another member won’t be here during thanksgiving break so we figured this would be best. So we thought this would be the bless plan. We’d be able to shoot still and make it back home safely.

So the Monday and Tuesday after break wed leave immediately after school and head to the mattress store. I know what you’re thinking, what the hell would we do at the mattress store. We chose this because the song basically talks about remember what he once had. We thought the best way to incorporate this would be for him to have flash backs to when he fed her breakfast in bed. So we’d go to a mattress store or a furniture store, then we’d ask for there permission to film of course. If they say no then we would end up going with my date idea. Either way we want it to seem like he’s reminiscing on the times he shared with the one he loved. On the next day, we’re going to the beach. We’re going to film our actor walking on the beach sining as if he’s thinking about what happened. The flashbacks will be incorporated in it between scenes.

Storyboard Blog

Since our video is a love song we are going to start off at the beach with our male actor walking on the beach near the rocks so we can get the water crashing on the rocks. For this scene, we wanted to do a medium close up so we can show the beach but also see the actor's facial expression as he is singing. The scene at the beach is going to be approximately 15-20 seconds. In the next scene, we are going to move to the furniture store this scene our this scene because we need a bed and kitchen set up. In this scene, our male actor and female actor will be "sleeping" in the bed then our male actor will sneak out of the bed and go, cook in the kitchen for his girlfriend. After he is done cooking the meal he will bring it to the bedroom where he will wake up our female actor and give her breakfast. This scene is going to be over the shoulder shot to show the kitchen set up. during this scene, our female actor is going to pick up our male actors' phone and see something that is going to make them get in an argument. This scene is most likely going to be a point of view scene that will switch between both actors. The next scene is going to show our female actor storm away this is going to be an eye-level camera angle. The last scene is going to show our male actor grab our female actor and pull her in while singing. This is going to be a 2 person shot. The scene is going to fade out.

Planning Blog

Location- Our male RnB actor will be on the beach walking around while having flashbacks of his lover. We also plan to shoot at the mattress store, in the kitchen area. We want a scene where our male actor is cooking for his lover. Additionally we plan to use the beds in the mattress store. We have a big idea for the use of the mattress store. Of course we will need the approval of the managers.

Health and Safety- We plan to make sure a lifeguard is on duty while we’re shooting at the beach, in case anything occurs. Also on the way to the beach and mattress store, we will be wearing our seat belts. We take safety very seriously. In addition to these safety precautions, we will have a buddy system. So if anyone needs to walk off during our filming process someone will be with them. You could never be too safe.

Props- In our music video we don’t really incorporate that many props. Since the traditional R&B videos doesn’t, but we will be using a bed from the mattress store. Also the kitchen appliances in the mattress store. We want the props to give the video a home feel. The mattress store props will make the R&b singer seem as if he’s home, in his own kitchen.

Costumes- Since traditionally R&b male singers wear tights shirts, to be seductive our male actress will to. We’re thinking a white tight tee. We aren’t  completely sure what color yet. The female most likely will be dressed girly, maybe wearing a dress or skirt.

Schedule
On 11/18-11/20 we will be doing our storyboard and planning . On 11/22 we would like to start filming. We want a couple of days to film.  So that during Thanksgiving break we’re stress free. The week of Thanksgiving break we want to film that Tuesday 11/26.

Intro Conventions

This is my first blog that is not dicussing our commercial. I am extremely happy to be moving on from the commercial. It was really a stressful process and  it was truly eye opening. It was such a horrible time in my life because I was so worried about my grade, but it did turn out to be a great commercial so I can’t complain. We’re finally about to start our music video. I’m actually really excited about this because I love music. Music means so much to me so I truly hope I will excel at this project. This time I need to improve on my editing because last time that was our main issue. We couldn’t find out how to dumb our project and work pinnacle studios. I also want to improve on my filming skills because the first project was a little rough. I know I can do better and I want to do better.

For our music video we chose to do the song “love don’t change” by Jeremiah. We chose this because it was a throwback song from our middle school days. When this song first dropped it was so big and everybody loved it. It made us feel all the emotions he was going through at the time, which is crazy because we were just middle schoolers at this time. This song just brings a sense of relief and happiness over me. Another reason why we chose the song was because it was R&B, that genre isn’t as popular anymore so we thought this would be a way to kinda sulk in its glory. I’m actually happy that we chose this song, it was a last minute decision but yet it turned out to be a great one.

C- R&B male singers usually wear tight shirts and jeans. They try to appeal to the female fans, and they often want to be seen as seductive. Tight shirts usually bring out they’re muscle fatigue, which most of them have.

L-In R&B videos they usually use dim lights inside of a small room, where they usually look through a window. This helps the audience feel the emotions he’s going through and it creates a sense of sadness. Sometimes they use natural lights to make the send me seem more realistic.

A- The actors in the RnB categories mostly consist of a lead male and female roles. In most of the RnB videos I seen the actors are usually in a relationship, getting out of one, or coming together.

M- In RnB videos the females wear make-up. I noticed that in the videos when the camera zooms in on the female you could see her make-up. So the use of make-up is to make the female more appealing in the video.

P- RnB music videos usually barely incorporate props. Due to the fact that most of the video focuses on the actors unless the Prop is what causes conflict between the actors.

S- In most RnB videos the setting takes place in a room with a back ground, or in a house. Some videos take place outside which will most likely be in the rain.

Shots- for the shots we want to use a extreme close up, to show the actors expression and his emotions. We’re also going to use a two-shot because we realized in lots of love song music videos it shows the boy and the girl. Lastly, we’re going to use a point of view shot because it symbolizes what the main character sees; usually they show how the guy sees the girl walking or laughing in slow motion.

Angles- We want to use the eye level angle because in a lot of music videos the actor is looking up while singing. We’re also going to use a Dutch because we want to make the sense more

Editing Blog

So my group and I finished the filming process and we were really looking forward to editing. We been trying to edit our commercial for about 2 weeks now, but for some reason everything just keeps getting in the way. Last week my media class had a whole bunch of technological problems, and on top of that me my group just simply couldn't find our commercial. After a weeks attempt one of my group members were able to recover the file. We then placed the file in a document on our desktop. At the beginning of the week we had another opportunity to start our editing process, but we were faced with yet another editing problem. Pinnacle Studious wasn't loading no matter how hard we tried. It was disappointing because we finally got our film to upload to the computer. We were excited, we thought that we had a breakthrough. Yet, it was just anther set back.

In addition to this, we all had to share computers so eventually we would have to return it and we were scared because we weren't able to get anything done. If I'm being honest I started to get a bit discouraged, we just kept being set back. I was truly stressed about my grade and the fact that we just couldn't find a way to edit the blog, we were running out of time. Our teachers decided to give us extra time to edit, which honestly I'm grateful for. Fast forward to today, we had another opportunity to try Pinnacle Studious again. We searched for the laptop we used earlier this week because we wanted to make sure we got the one we dumped it on. We logged in with excitement, ready to start our editing process, when we were faced with yet another problem. We couldn't find our document yet again. We decided to ask other groups for help but they also faced the same problem. I suggested that we try dumping it again but we had a substitute so we weren't able to get into the equipment room.

We tried calling security, so we could retrieve the SD card but that was also a dead end. We decided to just contact our teacher about the issue. We attempted to find our document again but it still wouldn't come up. Me and a fellow group member made the decision to go to the AICE Media classroom during study hall and try to at least start our editing process. I am determined to get it done. We must get it done, we worked hard on it, and I believe that we have a good vision. I truly just want to see our vision come to life, I feel like it'd be great. Even though we couldn't edit I still checked out Pinnacle Studious, since I had nothing else to do. I looked at all the cool features, I tried to get a bit more familiar with the app. It made me even more anxious to start editing because through be told it seemed a little difficult.
