Editing the Commercial

Hello blog, today we were supposed to start the editing process but things didn’t turn out exactly like planned. Let’s start from the top, we all walked into class, prepared to start the editing process because we had a huge vision for the commercial. We weren’t exactly confident about what we achieved on our filming day, so we thought today was the day we would get to sort of redeem the commercial. Anyways as soon as we got into class we figured out that we had an extra filming day but sadly we weren’t aware of this so we didn’t bring any props. Re-filming was not going to happen so we just sucked it up and got on the computer. As soon as we log onto the computer one of our other classmates asked us to switch because they uploaded their stuff to the one we were occupying. Honestly we were kind of already frustrated because we couldn’t find our film. Which caused us to panic a little bit, but regardless we still moved to let them operate. Next we tried another computer but because we were in such a rich to upload it last time, we couldn’t remember who’s account or which computer we put it on. On top of that, the computers take a good 5 minutes to log on so that was more time wasted.

So now we were stifling with finding our commercial and we were struggling with the fact that pinnacle studio wasn’t on the computers. We decided to move across the classroom because the other group was crowding us and we wouldn’t be able to sit together. Also we thought that maybe if we tried a different computer our file might pop up. It didn’t pop up, we still couldn’t find it. On top of we had to wait for the computers to fully load so our stress level was high. I was worried that if we lost it then that would be a F for our whole project; I can’t afford a F, my goal is always to aim for an A, so imagine how scared I was that our file was lost. The computer finally loaded and we still couldn’t find our file but we weren’t going to give up yet so one of my team members moved back to we’re we originally were. We tried to strategize, the day we dumped our commercial we logged into three different accounts on three different computers. So we went back to our spot and identified the computers we logged in on, then we tried to access all three accounts. Of course we still had difficulties.

While we were trying to do all of this we were still trying to blog, so class was a little hectic. Our main focused switched a little. We were now mainly focused on trying to blog because it was due at the end of the class. Once you miss a blog grade then that grade will be locked forever so we were trying to make sure this blog was in on time. After our previous computer was still a fail, we tried to access the other one. That was going to be a bit of a issue because someone was using to upload their commercial to google drive. We had to wait it out, eventually they allowed us to use it so we were just hoping this would be the last time we would have to do this. We had to wait for the computer to restart which took about 3 minutes. This time we tried the “online test” account. that was also a fail, so we tried my account but we still couldn’t find it. We were hopeless so we decided to call the teacher.

Filming Blog

On Thursday I finally filmed my first project. Although I was really excited it turned out to be even more stressful than I’d ever imagine. Me and my group gathered all our equipment and started our journey to the field. We had decided on shooting a track and field themed Nike commercial. So anyways, we were on our way to the field, I carried the storyboard for our commercial and my notebook so we could have all the angles and shots. In order to get the running block we had to walk all the way to 21, 3rd floor and retrieve the key or the track room on the field. Thank goodness it wasn’t much of a issue because Jahleel is familiar with the coach. Anyways, after we retrieved the key we continued our journey to the track, I must admit we were a little scared because we didn’t know how we were going to film with all those other people running around the track. Regardless of our hesitation, we were still persistent in getting it done. So we decided to just follow our with our plan.

At the track it took us a couple minutes to find the perfect place to set up. When we finally found a place, we begun to set up the camera, which I must admit it was harder than it looked. We eventually got the camera set up right and I thought we should start with our warm up scene because we accidentally left the headphones for the first scene in class. I ended up shooting the warm up shot at first, it was a wide angle, but I also allowed other members of my group to do it in case they could get a better shot. Because the sum kept moving, we had to redo a lot of the scenes. It became frustrating, because at first we had shot some related scenes in contradicting locations, so that’s another reason why we had to do a lot of things over. After we shot the warm up scene we got started with the introductory scene. This scene was only done twice because it wasn’t as difficult, all we were doing was a over the head shot with a little movement. I also shot that scene but I asked another member to shoot it again so we’d have more of a variety to choose from.  We ended up been set back when more people started to enter the track, but we made it work.

After we finally got done with those two scenes we got 2 takes of the actor changing his Nike workout attire to Nike running attire and his Nike shoes. That part was fun to do because we got up close with the shoes and the logo and it felt really realistic. By the time we were done shooting that it was around 8:40! We were running out of time but there’s no way we were going to head back to class without being finished so we just tried our hardest to spread it up. The other scene was just another simple scene, the actor just had to get into the running block and run. There ended up being a huge class in the camera frame so we had to pack up and more to the other side of the track. Filming the running scene wasn’t as bad, I didn’t shot this one, I had the task of saying the casual “ready, set, go.” We had to do that scene three times because we couldn’t figure out how to zoom the camera, we eventually figure it out but it sure took sometime. Lastly, we shot our close up for the last take, that was the easiest one of all, that was one of the most important takes because most Nike commercials have that type of ending and it made the film more dramatic. When we were done we just packed up everything, put the block back, and walked to class, of course one of our group members went to go return the key, but that was pretty much it. Oh, and we ended up bring the last group to finish filming so one of us had to stay back to dump everything.

Editing Lesson Blog

Today in class we had to learn about importing, exporting, editing, and dumping your footage. First we discussed the basics, like the procedure we have to go through in order to check out the equipment. Next we discussed of importing the footage to the computer. Basically, when you get on the computer look for a app called “pinnacle studio.” You’ll need to click on that, but before you do that make sure to stick your SD card into the SD card reader, anyways it’s important to remember that only one person from your group needs to log on. After you acknowledge that, leave the screen how it is, minimize it and put the SD card into the USB. It’s important that you make a folder on the desktop because without the folder all your footage could be lost. Next, label the folder then move all your footage to the folder. When your SD card is pulled from the computer then all your information will be gone, that’s why you have to make sure that you’ve saved all your footage to that folder. Then bring up the SD card, and check DCIM for footage, it should be based on the camera. Highlight everything on the DCIM and put it into the folder, after that you may take the SD card and return it to the bag, then the assigned area. When you take footage from a camera and put it on your computer it’s called “Dump.” Every camera bag comes with a USB, so you can also dump at home or upload to your google drive, but it’s recommended that you should still dump it at school.

Next we discussed importing, it’s important for us to import footage from the desktop to pinnacle studios. To do this you’d have to click on import, look for your newly saved folder (make sure it says my computer) and click the “t” sign for it to drop down. Then after you do this, it’ll scan for media, pinnacle studios usually takes time to load so clicking it multiple time will crash the computer. Everything with a yellow check will be imported, it’s best to import your media. Next, hit import, it goes very fast this time. Whatever the orange box is on is what you’re working on; after you do this click on edit. In that section is where all your raw footage is, once you drag it into the bottom part, it’ll be able to edit. The titles are on the top of the page and the music is located on the bottom. Next you have to take your media and drag into the editing bar thing, make sure not to click anything until it’s green. There’s a red bar with a triangle, when you drag it it’ll show the video. You can also see the video by clicking play button or the space bar. To cut, move to before you want to cut it, click razor blade, it will split the footage in half, then it’ll form a yellow box around it. Then the footage will be deleted; if you made a mistake you can still find the footage at the top.

To add a transition, right click. Make sure there’s a orange box, open a fix editor, go into transitions. Standard transitions will be located at the top. You can make the footage still, dark, and/or artsy, plus there are many more features. Hit the “t” to put font sizes, or add stuff from the internet. Type in what you want then click “ok”. Next, move the title to the first track, then it will pop up before it. Click on actual title then it brings it up, by doing this you’d be able to add music the same way you import stuff. To add music, it has to be an mp3, the you can add it to folder; in order to get rid of it click sound button off or go to the footage that you want in right click detach audio. If there’s a mistake use the back button to save and go to export, located next to import, in settings it should be a MPEX4, go to the best quality. Next, you have to hit start export, go to desktop, name it, then hit the save. Save it as a doc, when your in pinnacle studios. Also for voiceovers, detach sound from video, film  yourself doing it, import film the same way and then detach audio. Next go to file, save as, name, then put into the folder, hit save.

Planning Blog For Nike Commercial

Someone is going to walk onto the field, with his headphones on, and music playing in the background. He will have his Nike tracksuit on and will start warming up. Then he takes off his tracksuit and start putting on his Nike spikes and sprinting clothes. He will walk up to the block and get in.The camera will zoom in on his shoes and clothes. Emphasizing the product we’re trying to sell. The music will start to fade out as he is standing on the block then there will be complete silence. A sound will indicate for him to start running when he gets to the end the camera will zoom in on his face.

Props- Headphones, backpack, a running block,

Costumes- Nike spikes, warm-up clothing (jacket, Nike pants), black running shorts, running shirt

Schedule-

-10/10 planning
-10/14 story boarding
-10/21 filming
-10/23 editing

Location- On the track; we're going to have a race were someone is wearing Nike spikes (running shoes), they offer a close to the ground feel and stability.

Backup Plan-In the case it starts raining then will have a race between students in the hallway. We're going to have two friends walking in the hall, student 1 will yell to student 2 “do you want to race?!” Student 1 will put on a different brand that isn’t as fast as Nike, and student 2 will pull his Nike shoes out of his bag and then they race down the hall. The one with the Nike shoes ends up winning because Nike is the better shoe option. At the end the student 2 will say “ You could have...only if you had Nike” while holding the shoes up.

Research Convention & Codes

Dear viewers,
Today my group chose to do a Nike commercial. We started with a little research on what Nike commercials  or regular shoe commercials look like. We the realized that Nike commercials use a lot of different camera movements, camera angles, and sounds. They used camera angles as a way to make their theme known. They used pan shots while the runners were racing, they zoomed in on the Nike logo on their clothing and shoes, and they used close-ups to show how the runners felt. I would say the most effect shot were the close-ups; they were used as a way to show the athletes emotions if they won or lost the race.
Next we discussed the sound we wanted in or commercials. In order to get an idea of what it should be like we did some more research. We ended up noticing that most Nike commercials had diegetic sounds, soundtracks, and dialogue. The dialogue within the commercial was mostly motivating towards the athletes. There was also a lot of voiceovers where the athletes would mostly talk about how bad they want to make it, or why they choose to where the brand Nike. My group decided to put the breathing sound we heard on some of the commercials in our own commercial because we liked how dramatic it made the scene; we felt like it would bring a sense of realness.
In the end we were discussing how we’re going to shoot the running scene on the track. We realized that shooting the tracking shot without a dolly would be the hardest because we don’t have as much equipment available. We’re probably going to have to find a replacing shot. But I think we’ll figure it out if we brainstorm about it some more.

Introductory

To my mysterious views,

Hi the names Jushe', weird right, yeah I don't how my mom came up with it but she did. Anyways I'm here today to introduce the semi-complex individual I call myself. Lets start with basics, if I could describe myself I would say I'm a caring, selfless, selfish, creative, and dependable person. I grew up with a single mom so I had to learn to adjust and work hard for whatever I wanted. This may sound weird but I like working hard because I want to repay my mom for everything, I want her to have everything and more. Sounds like the basic teenage dream I know but I can't help it; I want to push myself to be great, I have to be great. That's why I try even though I often fail a lot, I just go home and cry, then I get over it and work harder because I am capable.

That's why I watch movies and T.V shows because they show the impossible being possible. Words can't explain how much I actually love movies and shows, especially action movies and drama movies. Action movies are amazing to me, the dynamic of it all just brings a feeling of excitement to me. I like to think of myself as the expert on action movies and shows, I watch everything from "The Lord of The Rings" to "Teen Wolf." If I had to choose one show to watch for the rest of my life it would be teen wolf. In my opinion, if the show you're watching doesn't bring out the emotion and passion in you, then it's just not good. Teen wolf, brings out every emotion in me, I've re-watched it about 9 times and it still surprises me, when they cry, I cry, when they laugh, I laugh. That just makes me appreciate the show even more it's so relatable, and it makes me feel like I'm apart of something bigger. If I could choose one action movie I wouldn't be able to pick between, The fast and the furious franchise, marvel anything, the transformers, the Jason Bourne series, and the John Wick series. Those movies are the best and if you think otherwise then we can debate about it.

Anyways, now I think I'll talk about my classes. This year I wanted to push myself to do more so I decided to take 4 AICE classes and I must say they aren't as bad as I thought they would be. I'm glad I decided to take them, even though I don't have the best grade in all of them, I think I can do better and I want to do better. I wish I threw a little AP class into the mix so I can really see what I'm capable of but, I always have next year; that's if I pass all my AICE this year. Sometimes I feel so much pressure, I mean I'm in 11th grade I have so much to do, I have to raise my GPA, I have to pass all my classes, and I have to figure out what I'm going to do for the rest of my life. That scares me sometimes, I have no clue what I want to be because honestly I am unable to stick to anything. I like fashion and I took a business class so I thin that'd be good because I don't really think I could work for someone else. But, then again you have to start from somewhere so I guess we'll see.
